Classroom Web Page

It's been a while since I have wanted to create a web page for my classes. Years ago while taking the CIESE program at Stevens I did one for my classes at Liberty High School, then I was very limited at what I could do with it but it served its purpose. While working on this online class at St. Peter's I was introduced to not one but several sources available for teachers in creating websites. So I tried again with "TeacherWeb.com" a while ago and wow was I able to get going, the more I play with it the more use I get of it. I also went to Scholastic but got very frustrated with the site for some reason once I enter and answered the basic question I seem to get stuck with the same results over and over. Could not add pics, clip art among other issues. So I went back to work and try to improve the one I had already. Today I am very happy to say my Human Physiology Web Page is operational and useful. I try to update it at least once a week: with a summary of the lessons covered, assignments given, and introduction of the lesson to come. I also like having the calendar page which I printout and post on the board outside my classroom every time it is updated to keep my students up to date with important dates such as quizzes, exams, assignments due dates, etc. The program I am using also allows me to upload any important handouts I give out in class so students if needed to can download and print. This weekend I added a blog page so I can leave messages to my students and make any comments I would like to. They can also leave comments if they choose so. I can't wait to see if they do! There is a page with class notes on it, but I intend to use it only when I have students out for days in events such as retreats or immersion trip so they can catch up before they return to class.
Well, another exiting module with lots of new and interesting things learned that makes my life as a teacher more enjoyable and in touch with the students.

I also had frustrating experiences with scholastic web page builder. (Although I could add pictures, they were very limited). Anyway, I appreciated hearing your perspective on better options out there. Sounds like you're farther along using this technology than I am! Thanks.

It's great to hear about your successful web page building experience. I'm glad to hear that TeacherWeb is such a great resource. I would love to start using it when I get a class of my own. I especially like that the site allows you to upload worksheets. That must be a wonderful feature for students who often forget to bring home what they need for homework. Thank you for your comments on my blog. It made me feel better to know I wasn't the only one struggling with Scholastic. Things started going better when I found one computer that would allow me to navigate the site with less gliches.
