Blogging!
I was not sure how this online course was going to be, and I was not to crazy about it when I signed up for it. To be honest I only did because I had to. My only prior experience with an online course was lats summer when I took "Classroom Management and the Teacher" given by Columbia University NYC. The class left me very disappointed, I realized that these types of classes the students has to be responsible and stay on track, it was a lot of reading and video watching, and teachers just sharing past experiences when we had the weekly online meeting, which was the only time we had any interaction with the professor at all.. To be honest again I could have learned the same if the materials were just sent to me for reading. As we enter the next module thank God my opinion on online classes has changed big time. I really believe the difference has to do on the way Dr. Luongo runs this course, she is always available to answer any question, to give us feedback and the BLOGGING! Is like I don't have to wait for a specific day and time to share with others what I have learned, or feel about a topic. the convenience of doing the studying and assignments on your own schedule following the deadlines is a great thing! I love the websites that my classmates have pics so I can put a face to the blog. Just a couple of weeks ago I realized I was also taking school law with one of our classmates, and this was because she brought up the topic in class of one of her blogs! I asked her if she was in this class and she responded she was, it was a great feeling to meet her in person when I felt I knew her for a long time. I am planning to start a blogg for a short period with my students in the 4th marking period, I just need to find the right topic, after all they have more practice on blogging than I do!

I just read your blog about "blogging" and it is a great way to not only share information but also put a "face" to the person behind the blog. I read comments that another student wrote about your Webquest so I looked it up and it is a great assignment. My son goes Prep and will possibly have your class and maybe this assignment next year. We met last summer and during the "face to face" class meeting next week, we will catch up! Your Webquest is creative, fun and interesting!
Doris,
I am so glad you are enjoying this course.
The blog is definitely a "different" experience, but one that I have grown to love. Just by seeing this post above (or below?) me, I see the social networking of this site at work.
Thanks for posting!
I felt the same way about trying an online course at first. Like you, I am enjoying the way this course is run and I am learning a lot. The computer skills we are learning are so practical. Not only is it helping me in the classroom, but it is making it easier for me to use the computer for other purposes too. I found it funny that you mentioned wanting to put a face to the blogs. I just wrote about that in my own blog. I miss the face-to-face interaction of the traditional classroom setting, but if everyone shares information in their blogs, we can gain a sense of unity in this online class.
awesome entry. This is my first online course as well and I didn't know what to expect. This course has definitely opened up my eyes to the use of tech in the classroom. I also must say I am a fan of the blogging and can't wait to post my upcoming, non-class related blog(s). You mentioned you may have your students create a blog for the 4th marking period, sounds like a great idea. Maybe have them comment on lessons done in class, outside/online research etc? Please post what you do end up doing.
This is my first online class also and I had slight reservations basically having to do with, what if I don’t understand anything and am lost on my own; but like you said Dr. Luongo runs this class perfectly. Always being available to her students is key, I know I ask a lot of questions and always like to make sure I’m doing assignments right.
I’m hoping to take another class with Dr. Luongo because this was such a great experience.
Thank you for posting and keeping this discussion so lively. It is nice for me to read the dialogue.
As I keep saying, blogs mirror real life and I think we all feel frustration at times. In the blog, I think we all voiced it during the Webquest "era"/module. ;)
Now, we seem to be content again and the feelings are showing in the Blogging "era"/module.
Excellent postings and responses!
